The PTO could not do all of the amazing things it does without the dedicated group of volunteers who are so generous with their time and efforts. Involvement with the PTO is a wonderful way to get to know the school, staff, students, and other parents. Beyond contributing in a meaningful way, it is fun, and the students benefit from our involvement in their school as well.

There are many different ways to get involved. We encourage you to learn more about the events and activities that the PTO sponsors and volunteer where you can. Our Signups are easy, and they will be posted on the website whenever there is an event needing volunteers. Please check on time to time basis for Volunteer Signups.

ALL volunteers need to renew their VIPS on a yearly basis.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

About Kids’ Meals

> Why does my support matter?

With a small staff, Kids’ Meals relies on volunteers like you to serve families across 55 zip codes in Harris and Montgomery counties. Together, we’re working toward our goal of feeding 26,000 children daily by 2031.

> What will volunteers be doing?

Volunteers will likely be assigned to the Packing Room or Food Prep Areas. Please come with an open mind and be ready to do whatever needs to be done to make sure the thousands of kids on the routes get fed.

  • Packing Room: This is where the entire meal comes together. Each lunch contains a protein, snack, fruit, and drink. In the packing room, all of these items are assembled into brown lunch bags (usually decorated) and loaded into our delivery bags to go out to thousands of children across Houston.
  • Food Prep Areas: There are three different food prep areas to which volunteers 8 and older may be assigned. In these food prep areas you might be asked to help receive and sort food donations, pack grocery bags, do quality checks on DIY lunch bags, and more.

Registration

> Who can register for the event?

Students in the specified grades and supervising adults may register for the event. Everyone volunteering must have their own account and be registered to the event. You can use the same email, but you will need to create different usernames. When you receive the message saying the email is in use, click continue creating account and this will allow for you to register. Once you are done, make sure to sign out and proceed with the next account.

> Can my child attend by themselves?

No, this is not a drop off event. All volunteers under 16 need to be supervised by an adult. However, it is acceptable if another attending parent agrees to supervise your child as well.

> Can siblings attend?

Due to limited spaces, this event is limited to students of the specified grades. You can e-mail elementaryevents@throgers.org to add siblings to the waitlist and we can let you know a couple of days before the event if there is space available.

> What if the sign-ups are full?

Please e-mail elementaryevents@throgers.org to be added to the waitlist and we can let you know a couple of days before the event if there is space available.
